The Facts and progress

It would be tedious to put everything taught in each course, so I will hit the highlights as well as show some of the projects/work that was done in that class. There will be much more in the 2019 semester including logic, statistics, English Comp 2, American government, and managerial accounting.

Accounting II

Throughout the semester, this course continued from Accounting I into further and deeper concepts. From journalizing the entry of a company owner and the issuance of stocks and bonds to cash flow statements and requisition, it was a challenging course, but not anything I could not handle. One thing I found interesting about this course was the knowledge I gained about stocks and bonds, and the calculations that are required to make sure the appropriate amount is divided properly to the right shareholders. I also liked journalizing the different aspects of a company. From manufacturing to the actual retail department, there is always something to be documented and journalized. I also realized this semester that Accounting will not be the area of business I pursue. It is knowledge that is very helpful for me, however, it is not the career for me. This semester we had several projects or assessments. Due to Butler keeping the assessment assignment I am not able to share it. However, about midsemseter we did a project on Financial Statements. We were given the annual report of a random company and had a month to complete the project. There are a lot of calculations and rations involved in Accounting, especially in this project. Below is the link of the project with the answers. If you ever come across vernacular within the project that you don't understand, always feel free to test my comprehension and ask me.

. Below I will also provide the formulas that I had to use in order to come up with the results on the last page of the project. A lot of work!

Principles of Management

This class was not one of the most difficult classes, but it intrigued me in the Human Resource/ Management aspect of business. This class does not transfer to Friends University, so I will have to retake this class should I attend there. Looking on the bright side of that situation, I will learn another perspective on the course and perhaps catch additional concepts. The final project was to  manage a project from an assigned task. My partner, Amber Scharff, and I were to plan a benefit concert in a foreign country. We chose a nonprofit organization in Italy that works with Downes Syndrome. The finished management plan can be seen below.

Macroeconomics

Previously I learned Microeconomics, which focuses on the supply, demand, and other factors regarding individual firms and businesses. This class however,  is different due to its focus on the entire economy as a whole. Topics include aggregate demand and supply, currency, Federal Reserve, Inflation, etc. The final project in this class was to choose two economies and research certain areas of their economy such as national debt, inflation rate, employment rate, and Gross Domestic Product. After comparing these areas, my partner, Amber Scharff, and I were then to analyze the information and decide which of the two countries had a more efficient economy.  We decided to compare Switzerland and England. They both had their own strengths in different areas; however, we came to the conclusion that due to the greater GDP and lower debt, Switzerland had a more efficient economy. The basic PowerPoint we presented is shown below. Overall, economics is not my favorite area of business, but it has helpful information that I will use later in my career and everyday life. This semester, I had the opportunity to introduce economics to 150 middle school students. I had five minutes to prepare a lesson on Opportunity Cost, and it was such a great experience. It is one thing to learn it in class, but it makes it real and sets it in stone when you get to apply or teach it yourself.

English Composition I

This class was a general class, however it allowed me to explore new ways of writing and different types of papers. Papers included narratives, summaries, analysis, and two synthesis papers which are shown below.

The first of the two was a narrative aspect with an argument. We spent the majority of the semester focusing on different readings regarding education. For the first synthesis, we were to compare two of the readings with each other and incorporate our own story and beliefs in it as well. The two readings I chose were the ones written by Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X, both black men who faced the challenges to obtain education regardless of their circumstances. This was my first experience at taking several readings, comparing them, and incorporating it with myself. It was a high A paper and can be seen below.

As a final argumentative paper, our second synthesis paper was over any topic we chose. The topic had to be something we had a strong stance on , and the topic I chose was if homeschooling gave students a disadvantage. I have personal experience and beliefs on this topic and am very passionate about the topic. Several people *cough* Angel *cough* think that Abeka Academy is not a sufficient school curriculum. However, without the curriculum, I would not be where I a today, and through research I evaluated the good and the bad of homeschooling in order to make this argument in my paper. This received a high A.

Public Speaking

This was a general education class, that did not transfer from my high school and unfortunately I had to take it again. The added instruction could only be  beneficial to my future career as everyday life. Case in point, I will be speaking to 150 people at an upcoming Sophomore Scholars dinner. This is basically a time to answer questions about the Academy and trying to convince the sophomores to sign up for the program.

Psychology

This class was full of a bunch of theories ;)....however, I was excited to learn a little bit more about why people do the things they do. I want to use it to both understand myself and others. One thing it helped me do was to look at things from a different perspective. One main project I had was over an interesting article about arguments.... I have the link below.
